Intro to Online Paper Prototyping
It seems like everyone’s got an idea for a website nowadays. But if you don’t have any practical skills (i.e. aren’t a designer or developer), it’s hard to know where to start.
Over the course of a few projects, I’ve developed a lightweight process I call ‘online paper prototyping’ which is useful for non-technical/design folks to express their vision in a compelling and actionable manner.
I will show you how to do it using Balsamiq Mockups and Dreamweaver, but anyone who can write basic HTML should be able to figure it out.
As an example, here are the ones I did for this very site.

Jonathan, I too agree – it was a great class! Looking forward to more!
We’re on for today @ 1:30pm at Epicenter (764 Harrison) in SOMA! See you all there.
Any chance you’ll set up your Flip recorder and capture your class for those of us who can’t make it :)?
Epicenter sounds perfect. Tyler, if you think it’d help to give the owner a heads-up, that’d be great. Otherwise, let’s just plan on doing it there. See you all tomorrow (laptops probably helpful to bring along, but not required).
The epicenter on Harrison? If so that is great with me. Is that okay with everyone?
yo, may i recommend epicenter? tech friendly, laid back coffee shop with a community table for about 8.
can talk to the owner if ya like.
Hoping it’s somewhere in the city of SF cause I have a few errands that day.
Looking forward to it… fyi, I’m a maybe as I may not be able to wiggle out of some other stuff I got to do.
Sounds like 1:30pm tomorrow (Saturday, June 20) works for folks. Anyone got thoughts on space (I’m figuring it’ll only be ~4 of us)? I’ll try to come up with something, but suggestions appreciated.
I also have a window from 1pm onward on Saturday til about 6pm. Sunday is shot with a wedding.
I think it shouldn’t be more than an hour. The overall process is pretty straightforward, so it will probably just take me 15-20min to run through and then we can use the rest of the time for questions/discussion.
whoops – I’ve moved to Helsinki this week so I’ll have to take the Finnish version of this class.
Sure…any guess as to how long the meetup will be? That’ll help me judge my availability.
Ok, I’m gonna be up in SF Thursday, June 18 – Tuesday, June 22. Do folks want to try to schedule something this weekend? Please let me know your availability in the comments.
The teacher of this class is a slacker. Will schedule something soon.

Thanks so much to everyone for coming yesterday! Per your requests, I’ve added some of the things we discussed to the links section above.
Also, Tyler had a great idea of posting stuff you guys come up with using what we discussed in the class. I think it would be great to have more examples for folks to learn from. So, please keep them coming.
And finally, I posted photos from yesterday in the (un)classes pool on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1101464@N21/pool/
