Photography Workshops
Understanding Histograms – Possibly the most useful tool available in digital photography is the histogram. It could also well be the least understood.
Bryan Alberstat will be instructing this hands-on workshop, where he will uncover the mysteries of the histogram. Bring your camera, students will engage in brief, hands-on picture taking exercises. Our goal is to have you leaving this workshop feeling more confident about using your camera while taking the mystery out of the histogram.
Experience level: Beginner and Intermediate
Equipment: SLR camera (you will want manual settings) – please bring your camera as this is a hands on workshop
Topics that will be covered are:
What a camera histogram tells a photographer and how best to utilize that information
Using the camera meter to properly expose a scene
Understanding range, exposure for capture
Post work and output
Applying this to landscape, portrait, natural light and studio light
When: August 14, 2010. 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (lunch will be provided)
Where: Bryan’s Studio, Oakland, CA (address will be provided with confirmation)

Teacher's Notes
Bryan Alberstat was raised in Calgary Canada. After graduating from the University of Calgary with a degree in Philosophy, he continued his education at the Alberta College of the Arts where he received his BFA. He is currently a San Francisco based photographer who specializes in Fine Art and Product Photography.
Bryan has a keen eye for unique raw beauty and can turn the simplest project into obscure art. He has spent the last few years perfecting his technique and skills by shooting editorial and advertising shoots for Forbes, Travel n More, Surfers Journal, New York Times, Business News Week and Rock and Ice. As well his work has been displayed at Reaves Gallery, Propeller, Rayko and Slideluck Potshow.
When not shooting back at his studio, he can be found enjoying the great outdoors as well as teaching at the California College of the Arts (CCA).
