Beer Making 101

Let’s learn how to brew our own beer!

If we get a group together, we should be able to convince the folks at BrewCraft to teach a class.

Teacher's Notes

I can teach, but I don’t know as much as the brewcraft folks. I have friends that do. I’d be into hosting at my place if you guys are ok with that.

Brewcraft already has classes, but if you want to learn from someone who’s done it 10s of times instead of 100s of times…I’m your man.

Maybe if we got a group of enough people, we could negotiate a discount on equipment from brew craft? I certainly need some more equipment. I’m up for both brewcraft and Ben’s place. Any experience at this point (any level) would be good to have.

We could do it a couple ways. I like the idea of doing it at Brewcraft, because they have a lot more equipment and will be able to talk to the options available. But the way I learn best is by doing the simplest, and then exploring options to augment based on my experience. What I can teach is 5 gallon batches with 2-step fermentation that’s bottle conditioned. I can’t show all-grain mashing, kegging, big batches, or other techniques that take lots of equipment. I can talk to those pieces, however, since I’ve used them all. Brewcraft would be able to show everyone that equipment, which could possibly be overwhelming if there are new brewers. It sounds like Kent’s off to a good start, so perhaps Brewcraft is good for the group, and if you’re really interested in the ins and outs, I’ll invite you to dinner sometime.

Hey Ben – Awesome! How would you want to structure this class? 10s of times is fine by me.

At the same time, we could organize a group and take the Brewcraft class on Monday nights at 6p. At the least, I know I need to buy a lot of gear so I can practice on my own.

I made my first batch of beer a couple weeks ago, but I’m certainly a beginner. Would love to participate in a class! Especially if we convince the folks over at brewcraft to host!
