How to keep Bees
Have you heard about urban beekeepers on the rooftops of NYC? Well, we have them in SF as well. I’ll show you a hive I keep and talk about the life cycle of a bee. Winter isn’t the best time to show a bunch of people a bee hive, so this won’t happen until at least next January or February (first nectar flow is then). This class has to be limited to 5 because I do not have enough equipment to protect everyone.
We’ll meet at 10am at St. Mary’s Park (easiest way to get everyone there). Location is here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=st.mary%27s&sll=37.733139,-122.421478&sspn=0.000997,0.002411&ie=UTF8&radius=0.07&rq=1&ev=p&hq=st.mary%27s&hnear=&ll=37.733937,-122.421486&spn=0.000997,0.002411&t=h&z=19
Let’s meet in front of the park building, which is the side of the building that faces Murray Street. Please let me know if you’re allergic to bees as I’ll have to make a trip to the pharmacy to get an Apipen.

Simone and Ed, thank you for coming! The club’s website is http://sfbee.org/. I’ll have another class in the spring when it’s time to re-establish a hive.
Hi Ben, thank you so much to you and Anders for showing us your hive. We still found it fascinating and fun, even if the little critters decided to take off without a good-bye or forwarding address! Next time will not dress like bears (or flowers).
By the way, if it’s not too late to tell you, wear light colors (preferably white) and mostly cotton (or other natural non-animal fabrics).
See you all this morning at 10am!!! If it’s raining, we won’t be able to see the bees in the hive too much, but we can still check it out.
See you all on Sunday @ 10am ….can’t wait & thanks for doing this Ben.
Sunday at 10am. Let’s meet at St. Mary’s Playground (I’ve updated the description) which is adjacent to Alemany Farm, where my bees are!
Let’s do it on Sunday (because I’m going anyway) and I’ll have another class when everyone can attend. Smaller groups work better because I’m really limited on veils, etc.
hey all – claire and I are out of town 11/20-11/28, but don’t let us hold you back from getting together. alternatively, could do something Thursday evening this week!
best

Hello Henry, Sunday 22nd looks good…or next week (busy Thursday though) – Simone
We’ve got 5. I need to do some work in the hive before the winter. Are all of you guys into doing this sometime in the next week? Maybe this weekend?
coool..
I used to keep bees in oakland. You can get yugoslavian hybrid queens (varroa mite resistant!) in vacaville. As well as a bunch of bees. The whole queen bee chewing through sugar cube while calming other bees with her mighty phermones is a bit nerve wracking…
