Urban Gardening Continued: The 10 Most Common Mistakes

Hi All – We’re on for Wednesday Sept. 30th, 6:30pm at Sloat Garden Center on Sloat Blvd. Lora, the Seminar Coordinator for Sloat, will cover the 10 Most Common Gardening Mistakes to help us newbies avoid obvious mishaps! To date, the focus has been on container gardening, but please bring questions about both indoor and outdoor scenarios. Lora’s been gardening for over 15 years, so milk her knowledge :)

The class will run about an hour and they’ll keep the registers open should anyone want to pick up any items that inspire.

Details:
When: Sept. 30th, 6:30pm
Where: Sloat Nursery on Sloat St.

THANKS!
claire

Note for Newbies to the class: This is a follow up to http://unclasses.org/classes/265 – but previous certainly not required! The more the merrier.

Yes! Tues/Thursdays are generally good. It was just that wed, 9/30 that is bad for me. Looking forward to any future gardening classes. Thx for organizing!

Andrew: share your composting ideas! would be great if we could fit a composting component into this or future gardening classes :)

Lindsey and Shannon: the group that came last time (not sure how many will be repeats) were all newbies to gardening, so the content will continue to trend toward beginners (there’s so much to learn :)). Lora, the teacher, loves taking tons of questions, so don’t feel confined to the topic when being curious. i’m thinking the ‘10 Most Common Garden Mistakes’ may be a good follow up that sticks to the basics. Thoughts?

JD: The date is stil up in the air, as I’ll wait to get a good class size. Lora is free on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October – are those days generally ok for you?

Thanks!

I have some great ideas for composting I can un-lend you for the class (where to get composting materials, books, ancient knowledge)… but these all sound like cool topics.

If I am back in San Fran (50-50) I am SO in for this!

This sounds wonderful, but is there anything more basic available? I think I missed the first class, and I was hoping for a topic that would teach you where to start on creating a garden. I’m hoping to start with a planter box full of fresh herbs. Do you teach anything about that?

Hi All,

Working on a date and topic for the next class. Does Wed. Sept. 30th work for everyone? Most likely 6pm at Sloat Nursery on Sloat.

Below are a few suggestions for a topic, but please feel free to suggest alternatives:
10 Most Common Garden Mistakes, Cool Tools and How They Make Gardening Easier, Dealing with Garden Pests in an Earth-Friendly Way, Composting/Improving Your Soil, Attracting Butterflies and Hummingbirds

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Claire
