Basic Zen Meditation

The class will go over zazen (sitting) meditation in the Zen tradition. Basic tenants of Zen Buddhism will be mixed with sitting instruction and, of course, actual meditation.

wow – i love that people are still signing up for this. i’ll be back in the bay area in early november and would be very down to try to organize a sit then. anyone in?

hey guys – i’m really sorry this class never got going. a move to boston crept up on me and i didn’t find time to squeeze this in before i left.

i’m going to be back in february for a couple weeks and would down to do it then. for those of you willing to wait around for that, stay in this class and i’ll let you know when it’s going to happen. otherwise, apologies. all i can offer is the uber short version – take 15 minutes, site cross legged, and every time a thought comes in your head, let it go. focusing on nothingness is another way to put it. and don’t get discouraged – you can never actually do it, the point is just to try.

good luck and hopefully i’ll see some of you in february. oh, and if anyone is ever in beantown and wants to sit, give me a shout.

hi all – i’m actually out of town until the end of august, so this class will have to wait until then. however, i’m teaching a class in boston, perhaps even this weekend, so if you or anyone you know will be out there, tell them to sign up:

can anyone do 2pm on friday? any time until 4pm works for me. and anyone know a good park easily accessible by public transportation that would suffice as a location?

we could also all take a visit to the SF Zen Center http://www.sfzc.org/ — on Saturdays, they have 8:40AM Meditation Instruction for Beginners.

hey ravi, maybe you could try setting up a doodle.com poll with date/times you could teach this class?

next tuesday would be better – michael pollen is speaking in SF tomorrow night – should we just mark 5/12 in the books?

yeah – i was thinking after dinner perhaps? maybe 8, 830? whatever works for everyone – we can easily push it back a week if this tuesday is too soon. outdoors would be amazing, but that time of evening might be a little too cold/dark…

hey ravi,

could do tuesday pm and will try and drum up a place. do you have a time in mind? feels like directly after work may be a tough time to get one’s zen on…

could we do this outdoors? gg or dolores park? (assuming weather is good?)

i’m down for Tuesday. would volunteer our apt (but we have cats…who may not meditate themselves the entire time) – also have access to plenty of office space downtown (not terribly zen-like, but an option)

how do people feel about having this class on tuesday evening? i’m going to be in the city anyway and the class has definitely gotten big enough. however, i don’t have a venue for this – all we need is a room where we can sit in a circle on the floor – any ideas?
